Ask the King: What if I Find College Too Expensive?

Dear Financial Aid King,

There are a few colleges I am looking at that seem out of reach due to the cost of tuition. If I am interested in a college, but it appears too expensive, should I even bother applying?

Thanks!

Budgeting

Dear Budgeting,

You have to shoot your shot.

I encourage you to apply to any and all colleges you might be interested in. The reason being you never know how much financial aid you will receive.

Private colleges will offer various  types of scholarships and/or need-based grants to help bring down the price.

Once you’re accepted, you will receive a financial aid decision that outlines any scholarships or grants awarded (as long as you file the FAFSA). You can’t compare cost if you cross a college off your list before you even apply.

Sticker price is rarely the price a student pays thanks to the abundance of financial aid in the financial aid kingdom.

If you still need help, we have additional tips to help make college more affordable for you.

Sincerely,

Financial Aid King
