Ask the King: How to Recover Your FSA ID & Account

Dear Financial Aid King,

What can I do if I lost my FSA ID, and the email I used to make my ID no longer exists?

Sincerely,

No ID for Me

Dear No ID for Me,

The FSA King feels you on this. Like many of us, I have a history of defunct email accounts, like 1King$@hotmail.com.

I also hear this question a lot from students and their families as it gets hard to keep track of all of our sign-ins and passwords in this digital world. That’s why I recommend, in a rare breach of best practices for cybersecurity, that people write down their FSA ID information somewhere safe.

Here’s a link to download my FSA Checklist, which offers a place to do just that.

Now, to fix this situation.

If you remember the mobile phone number you used or your challenge questions, you may be able to retrieve your FSA ID. You can also visit Federal Student Aid login page to retrieve a forgotten password.

Once you are able to access your account, you can view the email you used and update it if necessary.

If you still cannot access your FSA ID, you will need to contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center. They will be able to assist you.

Feel free to give them a call at 1.800.433.3243 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, except federal holidays.

Note: The contact center can discuss FSA ID issues only with the owner of the FSA ID.

I hope this helps, and you’re back to completing that FSA in no time.

Sincerely,

The King
