Dear Financial Aid King,
I feel like filing the FAFSA is a complete waste of time — like when you try to teach your grandma to use Tik Tok. I don’t think I’m going to qualify for anything. What’s the point?
Thanks!
Pointless
Dear Pointless,
No, no. A complete waste of time would be the Financial Aid King spending time organizing his vinyl collection alphabetically (not that he did that).
Filling out the FAFSA is never a waste of time. Colleges and universities use the FAFSA form to give out need-based and non-need-based aid.
So, you will not know what you’re qualified for until you receive a financial aid decision. And you won’t receive a decision unless you file the FAFSA (and are accepted into college).
So, yes, file the FAFSA!
It’s free to file — it’s not calledFree Application for Federal Student Aid for nothing — and you are not obligated to accept anything you don’t want.
For instance, say you receive a decision and are only offered a student loan. If you don’t want it, then, don’t accept it.
But, you won’t know until you try!
Sincerely,
Financial Aid King
